Chris Herr is a Cyber Security Exercise Developer and Instructor within the CERT® division of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), a unit of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. Chris has been with CERT for over 5 years. His work includes developing training, to include labs and training simulations, on a wide array of topics from the basics of cybersecurity to digital forensics or networking. Chris earned his Master of Science degree in Information Science (University of Pittsburgh, 2010). Prior obtaining his degree, he served in the U.S. Army from 2004 to 2008. Chris holds a CISSP from (ISC)2 and is also a member of ACM.
In this paper, the characteristics of a potential cybersecurity video game are presented. Several current cybersecurity games were reviewed and key attributes and shortcomings of these games were identified.
