Abstract
Why are ethics so important to artificial intelligence (AI)? At the 2020 SEI Research Review, Ms. Carol Smith and Ms. Alex Van Deusen propose a grand challenge to make AI more ethical. The goals for ethics in AI include reducing unintended/harmful bias and preventing the inevitable harm that comes from "unknowable" systems.
