Through research, development, and engagement with customers, the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is working to help the Department of Defense do artificial intelligence (AI) as well as it can be done. In this episode, Matt Butkovic, technical director for Risk and Resilience, talked with Michael Mattarock, senior engineer – program development, about the SEI’s efforts to apply AI techniques to address national security mission needs while leading a national initiative to build a new discipline of AI Engineering in collaboration with a growing community of university researchers and government and industry practitioners. Matt and Michael previewed several new positions, including technical directors, AI infrastructure engineers, machine learning engineers and research scientists, and penetration testers.
